How to Draw A Fancy Letter D Easily

How to Draw A Fancy Letter D. Some letters in our alphabet are more common than others, and the letter D is one of the most common. It has a harsh sound and comes in two different-looking forms depending on whether it’s uppercase or lowercase.

Also, check our elsa coloring pages.

In this guide, we aim to make this letter even more bold and adorable as we learn how to draw a fancy letter D in 6 steps.

We’ll show you how to make this letter cool and unique, then tell you how to color it.

While we have a great design to replicate, you also have plenty of room to experiment! We will cover a few ways you can add your spin and ideas to the design.

How to Draw A Fancy Letter D

Step 1

In this guide, the fancy version of the letter D focuses on the uppercase version. Once you get the hang of it, add a lowercase d to the style!

For now, let’s focus on the capital letter. It will have a curved and intricate design but will be shaped like a regular letter D overall.

To make it easier to visualize, draw a large, textured letter D in a more even font and create a fancier design around it.

On a regular letter D, there is a straight vertical line down the left side of the letter. But in this design, we will add curled flourishes to that straight edge.

These two ruffled shapes will flow in opposite directions, and the bottom one will be slightly larger. Try replicating our sample image as closely as possible, then connect them with a slightly curved line. Once that’s done, we can proceed to the second step of the guide!

Step 2

In this second step of the tutorial, we will draw the rest of the outline for this letter. First, you can draw a small pointed section near the top of the letter.

This makes the letter a bit fancier, so you can change the shape slightly. Next, we draw the right edge of the letter.

As you can see in our example, this border is drawn with a simple curved line. As easy as it may be, it can be harder than it looks!

Drawing a long, rounded line like this can be tricky, as your hand can shake if you hurry. Take your time and slowly draw a curved, rounded line outwards.

Our example shows that the curved bottom edge we drew in the first step will overlap this curved line. That’s all there is to this step!

Once you’re done, you can erase the pencil planning lines if you drew them, as they were mostly there to help with the outline. Next, we draw the inner section.

Step 3

There’s a hole in the middle of the letter D, and that’s certainly the case with your awesome letter D! Just like the rest of the design, this part will have a touch of whimsy.

It will be a long, rounded shape with a pointed tip at the top. This part might be more complicated to draw than you think.

A thorn-like section will be sticking out on the left that you can replicate from the reference image. We chose this design, but you can change it a bit if you’d like!

For example, you might prefer a simpler, rounded shape for the hole. Or you may want it to look even more elegant with some of those thorn-like nubs.

It’s up to you to decide because while we created this design, we want you to feel free to personalize it!

Now that this part is drawn, we can focus on the other interior details in the next few steps.

Step 4

It’s time to decorate this letter. The letter design looks extravagant, but these details make it even more elegant!

This is another step where you can add some of your ideas and flourish. We’ll stick with our design for now.

We will first add some twisted spiral lines from the tips of some of the shapes in the design.

Our sample image shows where we’ve placed them, but you can add more in other places if you’d like.

Next, we’ll add a pattern to the letters. We decided to add some wavy lines to the image, which add a lot of extra detail for you to admire.

You can go with other details or change our design a bit. It’s up to you, and if you’re happy with this step, we can add some final details in the next step.

Step 5

It’s almost time to add some color to your drawing, but first, we must add some final details! These complete the effect of the design and help make it look even fancier.

We kept it simple and started with a series of dots around the outline of the letter. You can see where we placed them, but they can be placed anywhere on the letter.

Finally, we added some fine lines inside the hole on the letter and under the base to add some life to the design.

Now that you’ve drawn some details, you can move on to some colors or add more detail! However, the details don’t have to be as subtle as ours.

You can add a background, other text, or shapes to the design to bring it to life. You can play around with some ideas, but we’ll review some for you after the next step.

Be sure to read on after adding color in the last step because you can have so much more fun with this design!

Step 6

When it comes to coloring, there are so many ways you can do it. Not only can you choose the colors you like, but you can also choose how to apply those colors.

In our reference image, we show you one of the many ways you can colorize this awesome letter D! We chose a light green hue for the image and think it looks great.

You could use a similar green color for yours, but you have a whole spectrum of colors to choose from!

We chose to color the letter with just one color, but you can fill it with a wider range of colors. The pattern on the letter allows for many different color details so you can experiment.

Knowing the colors you want to use can help you decide on the artistic tools, mediums, and techniques you will use.

Will you use some paint, crayons, pencils, crafts, or a combination? Let your creativity run free, and above all, have fun!
